This open water swimming event forms part of the Royal St Andrews Hotel Amanzi Challenge, which started in 2017.The circular course is swum in a clockwise direction  through two of Port Alfred’s prominent landmarks, namely, the Royal Alfred Marina & the tidal Kowie River. The swim has a wet start with the participants entering the water off a jetty at the Halyards Hotel & drifting to line up at the entrance to the first canal of the  Royal Alfred Marina. The swimmers exit the mile swim at the slipway of the picturesque Small Boat Harbour. The swim-leg down the Kowie River will be slightly tide-assisted.

The swimmers are assured of excellent water-safety with the presence of Port Alfred’s NSRI team on the water throughout the event! The banks of the canal as well as the river will have an abundance of cheerful supporters, encouraging the swimmers & large, colourful buoys will be strategically positioned in the water to assist the swimmers with direction.

All swimmers who complete the swim will be given a finishing time.

The prize-money is substantial –  the first three finishers in each of the 4 Age Groups will receive prize-money as well as medals (gold / silver / bronze). The overall fastest swimmer ( boys/men category //// girls/ladies category) will each receive a trophy. All finishers will receive a Royal St Andrews Hotel Amanzi Challenge T/Shirt and a certificate.
